Vivo just launched the Y17s in India, a budget phone which seems to be a 2023 refresh of the equally budget focused Y17 launched way back in 2019.
The specs aren’t anything special even for the price, starting with a 6.56” LCD screen of HD+ resolution running at 60Hz and promising 840 nits peak brightness. Doubt there’ll be any real HDR support at this level.
Storage options are 64GB and 128GB of the eMMC 5.1 variety, both blacked by 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
The phone has its fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button on the plastic frame. Speaking of plastic, the back is also of the same cheap but durable material. No surprises here.
On the camera front, the Vivo Y17s features a dual camera setup on the back; a 50MP primary shooter backed by a 2MP depth sensor. On the front we get an 8MP sensor.
This is all powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset backed by a 5000 mAh battery that charges at a very sluggish 15W.
The Vivo Y17s will cost ₹11,499 ($138) and ₹12,499 ($150) for the 4GB+64GB and the 4GB+128GB variants respectively.
Even at such a relatively low price we don’t quite fancy this device, and it definitely won’t be making it into most budget recommendations. Anyway, what do you think? Are we giving a harsh verdict? Let us know in the comments.
